The Elvex was not the best reception but I learned to deal with it because I figured all these radio/earmuffs were not that great. I looked into the Peltor digital Worktunes but so many people complained of poor reception. You would think with digital features it could be a winner but I decided to stay away from them. Also my Elvex was nothing to brag about so I went with the Bilsom AM/FM Hi-Vis 14015543 and I am thrilled!!! On the FM dial I can pick up so many stations and clearly without cutout. They block the lawnmower noise so much better that I can hardly hear it. As far as the AM goes it is just OK but I live far from the radio stations that I want to listen to on AM anyway that it's hard to get good reception with any radio. I would mainly want to listen to a ball game on AM which I can do if I really wanted to. The included MP3 player cord works great with an ipod also. Shop for the best price but I... My previous Worktunes radio headphones had the same problem so often listed in user reviews ..... they just wouldn't stay tuned to an FM station.... reposition your body, change positions on the job or move my Bobcat or Mini Excavater and the station was lost. Plus the Worktunes headphones went belly up in about a year even though they sat in my pickup with little use for the majority of that time. Since I needed a new pair I decided to browse the net and read the reviews on every brand and model I could find. Reviews are also mixed on Quiet Tunes models, as well as most of the other brands. I did buy an economy model in the interim... cheapy Bell-Howell set .... Don't bother with the Bell Howell brand the sound quality is as bad as the price would indicate. So I stumbled on these Bilsom brand, and after reading every review I could find... If you want to listen to music and any station will do the above earmuffs will work for you. However, if you want to listen to a certain station without various stations drifting in and out, you should try the Howard Leight NRR25 muffs. They performed well in blocking out the external noise (lawn tractor) and stayed on station when I turned my head or made turns while cutting my yard (3 acreas). All the others failed miserably even tho they had nice digital readouts, ear volume adjustments, station mode controls, etc. The NRR25 are plain Jane with a simple tuner that stays on station, off and on switch, FM/AM selector and earmuffs that blockout external noise. That it! What I don't like about the NRR25 is the instruction manual (poor at best), the battery compartment and direction of installing the batteries. You have... Read more |
